Do you have a toothache that makes you grimace and groan with a single touch? While many toothaches can be relieved when you rinse out your teeth, sometimes it's going to take more than a quick fix to get you back to optimal oral health.Tooth Ache

At the dental office of Ernest Fontaine, D.D.S., patients find full relief for their toothaches all the time, every time. Even the most persistent aches caused by severe decay, a break, or displacement can be fully restored with the expertise of Dr. Fontaine and his dental associates.

Take a look at some of the most common causes of toothaches below:

  • existing debris that's been lodged between teeth
  • broken or fractured teeth
  • displaced teeth
  • tooth decay

If your toothache is caused by debris lodged between your teeth, simply rinsing out your mouth or brushing your teeth can often relieve your pain. If it's caused by a break or tooth decay (cavity), come to Dr. Fontaine's office as soon as possible.

Dislodged Teeth

In the frightening case that your tooth has been dislodged from your mouth completely, it's important that you stay calm and try to place it back into its socket. Then go straight to your emergency dentist.

Remember to apply a cold cloth, wrapped ice, or compress to your cheek close to the point of impact, which reduces swelling. Never place ice directly on your skin - always wrap it in a barrier of some kind, such as a dish towel. If you can't place your tooth back into its socket, pick it up at the top (rather than the root, which can compromise the chances of restoring it) before putting it in a container of milk until you get to the dentist.
